Working in a service field, such as teaching, is one tough job! As teachers, we tend to fill our plates with a lot of things. We can get caught up in the mix of things— curriculum assessments, "state of the art" instructional strategies, professional development opportunities. The list goes on. While we have a million thoughts racing in our minds, I believe that we sometimes lose sight of the reason why we really went into the teaching field. In your own words, tell us................why did you decide to become an educator? Why is this "thee profession for you?" In a few words describe what you want to become in the world of teaching. How do you want to be remembered? Really dive into what you genuinely want to accomplish as an educator.
I first knew I wanted to become a teacher when I was volunteering at a special education preschool. The more days went by spent with these children, I knew this was the path I wanted to take in life. I want to be a teacher because it is a profession that I have a passion for and it is a job I will not dread waking up to go to in the morning. I want to make a difference in these children's lives and help be the reason they enjoy learning and coming to school every day. This is not a profession for everyone, you have to love what you do. I think educators are one of the most important professions out there and these children need people to help guide them with patience and understanding.
ReplyDeleteEver since I was a little kid, I always knew I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My role model, my grandmother, was a teacher for over 30 years in the Jersey City school district as a paraprofessional for the Deaf/HOH. Hearing about her stories of finding ways to help students out in every single way really resonated with me, and I wanted to someday have the same effect on people that my grandmother had on me and so many of her students. Even after her passing, students of hers came to her funeral to pay their respects and tell me how much of an impact she had on them. I could not see myself in any other profession, because there is no other profession quite like teaching. There is no other profession that gives you an opportunity to open up young minds, treat them with the utmost kindness, and show them the great things that life has to offer. I want to be remembered as a teacher who was always there for their students, taught them things that sparked their interests, or just kept them engaged for the little time they spent in my classroom.
