Take a good look at the classroom set up in the photo on the right. What are some of the positives that you see in such a classroom design? Are there any drawbacks to this structure? Have you ever seen a classroom set up in this way? Where? What type of a class structure to you have in the class in which you are observing. In your opinion, does this type of a classroom setup invite positive learning? Why or why not? What is your "dream" classroom for the grade in which you are now teaching?
When creating a classroom, it is super important to understand that every little detail can have a purpose in the room. In my opinion, the classroom pictured has positives of open/flexible seating, brightly colored wall, technology incorporated into the classroom, and readily available books. With that being said, I do think that the classroom pictured could be added to. The walls are a little bare for my liking, and the right side of the classroom could also have more added to it, such as a reading carpet, more storage for tools, etc. For my dream classroom, I would make sure everything was set for positive learning. I think one thing I would incorporate into my classroom for positive learning would be ambient lighting, because I feel like the fluorescent lights in classrooms can be overwhelming for some students. I would also add tons of positive posters and anchor charts of skills we have been learning throughout the year.
